Marta Pedzik is a Polish-born, Warwickshire-based painter who’s practice is concerned with the combination of process-driven abstraction and figurative imagery. Using symbolic imagery from online sources as well as own photography, she dislocates components from their original contexts. Pedzik treats them like icons, re-contextualising them into new simplified settings. She does this by manipulating and experimenting with the use of and properties of paint. She focuses on intuition and encouragement of controlled chance with the application of paint. Paint surface and its material qualities then become the icons’ new environment. Pedzik’s paintings communicate a tension between the graphic and the painterly, the abstract and the figurative.
